Meet the Animals
Bravo
Supported by
Kathy Felty &
Mickey McGowan
Bravo is our youngest sanctuary resident! This little yearling donkey came to us in June 2024 after he was rescued by friends of the farm at an auction in West Virginia. He is small but has big job as a “therapy donkey” and species ambassador for donkey welfare!
Pete
Pete is an Appaloosa pony in his mid-teens, who just so happens to only have one eye! He is the most dog-like of any horse we’ve ever met and has never met a stranger.
Hudson
Hudson is our oldest resident at ECC at 25+ years old. He is a Morgan horse cross rescued from a killpen in August 2023. He is a kind and gentle, wise soul that is happy to hold space for anyone who needs it.
River
River is an adolescent mini horse rescued from auction by another organization. He has very unique blue eyes! He is “fun sized” - not quite as small as a true mini. Popular for his unicorn looks, River is smart as a whip and is the leader of his herd.
Vinny
Vinny the Mini makes up in personality what he likes in stature! This little guy is about 4 years old, so he’s in peak horse toddler-hood. He is always up to something fun and loves attention! His most important job is mentoring our little donkey, Bravo, and he loves being a “big brother”.
Huckabee
Huckabee is a Standardbred horse born in 2007. He was not fast enough to race, so he spend about ten years as an Amish cart horse before being rescued from a killpen in 2021. He prefers working with adults, and unlike many rescued animals he LOVES men!
Otis
Supported by
Lee & Adrienne Johnson
Otis is an adolescent donkey, who most often can be found hanging out with his best buddy Sullivan. Otis was rescued from a killpen and likely had limited handling prior to coming to ECC. He is still learning that human touch is safe but he loves treats!
Remi
Remi is ECC’s newest resident, having joined the herd as an owner surrender in February 2024. He unfortunately had not been receiving appropriate care for quite some time and arrived in sanctuary seriously underweight and lacking in veterinary & farrier care. He is enjoying attention from people, having horse friends again after years alone, and eating lots of good food! Remi would benefit immensely from a herd member to support his needs during his ongoing recovery.
Sullivan
Sullivan is a gaited pony in his early twenties. He is calm and patient with children and adult alike, and he LOVES scratches! He was rescued from a killpen in March 2022. His gentle demeanor makes him a favorite with kids.
Coleman
Supported by
Renee Avery
Coleman is a legend! As a Standardbred, he has many past lives, from winning racehorse to Amish cart horse to kids’ lesson horse…he’s really done it all. He is enjoying his retirement at ECC as lead gelding in his herd.
Cyrus
Supported by
Ashley Wickerson
Cyrus is an early teens quarter horse. He was rescued from a killpen in March 2023. His paperwork indicates he had been moved between lots several times, possibly originating in Alabama. He is a sensitive soul who loves working with people on the ground.
Dylan
Supported by
Melinda Tomaino
Dylan is an adolescent mini mule rescued originally by Lost Meadow Mule rescue in Texas. You would never know he was found running feral on a cattle farm…he would very much like to climb into your pocket. He is a master of good-spirited mischief…one of his favorite past times is chasing our barn cat!
Leo
Leo is a registered Appaloosa, whose official name is “Spotted in a Crowd”. The is the gentlest of giants, who loves attention from anyone and everyone. Leo came to us as a therapy horse after retirement from careers in dressage and therapeutic riding.
